JC Newman Cigars
Founded in 1895 by Julius Caeser Newman, J.C. Newman Cigar Company is the oldest family-owned premium cigar maker in America. For four generations and 124 years, J.C. Newman has been handcrafting many of the world’s finest cigars. J.C. Newman is headquartered in an iconic 109-year-old cigar factory in the Ybor City National Historic Landmark District in Tampa, Florida. At this factory, known as “El Reloj,” J.C. Newman rolls premium cigars both by hand and by hand-operated, antique cigar machines.
The J.C. Newman PENSA cigar factory is the second largest in Nicaragua and is where Brick House, Perla del Mar, El Baton, and Quorum cigars are hand-rolled. J.C. Newman’s Diamond Crown, MAXIMUS, Julius Caeser, and Black Diamond cigars are handmade by Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic. With its longtime partners the Arturo Fuente family, the Newmans founded the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, which supports low-income families in the Dominican Republic with education, health care, vocational training, and clean water.
Exclusively hand-rolled in the Dominican Republic with Carlito Fuente’s very best master rollers, the long filler in MAXIMUS is a secret blend of specially aged Dominican filler tobaccos. The MAXIMUS wrapper is a special Ecuadorian tobacco, exclusively grown on the El Bajo region of the Oliva’s Ecuador plantation. El Bajo sits in a pristine valley where the mountain’s natural minerals and nutrients, washed down by centuries of rain, have made the soil exceptionally rich; perfect for growing tobacco. The unique and remarkably smooth, full-bodied flavor of the Diamond Crown MAXIMUS is unparalleled. Only the richest, hardiest and darkest tobacco from the top priming ‘corona’ of the plant is used in Diamond Crown MAXIMUS. Because of the tobacco’s weight, Carlos Fuente is able to re-bulk and re-ferment the tobacco, further contributing to its full flavor and dark color.
Brick House Double Connecticut is rolled with the same highly-acclaimed Brick House filler blend with a genuine Connecticut Shade wrapper and Connecticut Broadleaf binder. Fewer and fewer cigars are being made with genuine Connecticut wrapper because many cigar manufacturers have found it to be more profitable to take Connecticut seeds and plant them elsewhere, like Ecuador or Honduras. J.C. Newman takes the use of genuine Connecticut tobacco by using it both in the wrapper and binder.
The result of this combination is a very spicy and peppery rich flavor- one not only unlike regular Brick House- but one unlike any other cigar on the market today. Using both Connecticut Shade wrapper and Connecticut Broadleaf Binder is what makes this new Brick House Double Connecticut such a truly unusual and unique cigar.
In 1937, J.C. Newman launched Brick House; a true Cuban puro cigar made with the finest Havana tobaccos. To honor his family and heritage, J.C. modeled the Brick House label after his childhood home – the only brick house in their small, Hungarian village. Locals and visitors would gather at the house nightly to eat, drink, smoke and enjoy each other’s company. But with the Cuban embargo came the end of the Brick House. Over 70 years later, grandsons Bobby and Eric Newman relaunched Brick House using the most exquisite Nicaraguan tobaccos. Wrapped in a hearty Havana Subido™ leaf, every cigar features a rich blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos carefully hand-rolled by master artisans. Aged over a year in the mountains of Nicaragua, every Brick House cigar is a melding of flawless construction, superb quality and master blend.
In 2010, to celebrate J.C.’s 135th birthday and our company’s 115th anniversary, Diamond Crown Julius Caeser was released. Diamond Crown Julius Caeser cigars are meticulously rolled by hand in small batches by Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic. As with all Diamond Crown cigars, Julius Caeser is held to the highest standard of quality control. You will discover that it is the especially flavorful Ecuadorian Havana-seed wrappers combined with a smooth, robust blend of fine Dominican binder, select Dominican and Central American filler tobaccos, carefully aged for five years, that gives Julius Caeser its bold, rich distinctive flavor.
Each Diamond Crown cigar passes through three inspections and is aged in lots of 50 in cedar curing rooms for a minimum of twelve months. Additionally, Carlos Fuente selected only the most skilled cigar makers for Diamond Crown, paying them a fixed top rate of pay. Therefore, Diamond Crown cigar maker’s incentive is to make the best, rather than the most cigars. Diamond Crown’s exceptional taste comes from the five-year-old Connecticut Fermented Wrapper. Unlike most quality tobacco wrappers, normally given a single fermentation, Diamond Crown wrappers are conditioned, graded and selected for a second fermentation. It is this “second curing” that evens and develops the Rosado color of the tobacco wrapper and eliminates any potential rawness, accounting for much of Diamond Crown’s sweet, smooth, richer flavor.
Everyone knows the best time to smoke a cigar is on the weekend preferably after midnight. We named this blend Liga Midnight because the darkness of the leaves captures the mystery and flavor of the night. Rich, dark, chocolate and coffee notes tease your taste buds as you are brought deeper into the night-shade of this cigar leaving you both satisfied and wanting more at the same time.
When Day turns to night before 5pm then usually its a solar event called an Eclipse. In this cigar, we have affectionately named Eclipse so you get the best of both worlds. You get the day with the light airy cedar and caramel mixed with the dark chocolate and coffee notes of the dark Maduro’s we sell that you’ve come to love. Not sure which cigar to get between the MIDNIGHT and DAYBREAK? Then, pick up an Eclipse soon and see if you agree with our palate.
Do you like coffee with your cigars in the morning? We do!!! But often the cigars that we get to smoke with our coffee are lacking something….call it flavor, punch, power, or complexity we simply call it TASTE. But when we tried this cigar in the morning we were blown away!!! So if you want a great balanced cigar that highlights notes of caramel, cedar, and just the right amount of spice then this is the cigar for you. It is both the perfect cigar for the beginner and the veteran smoker who wants more from their cigar than just a pretty label.
This cigar is a medium-bodied, full of flavor Maduro that we’d liken to several boutique blends. If you are a fan of Maduro boutique cigars but don’t want to drop $10.00 per stick then this is a cigar that you must try! I have been told by more than one reputable cigar lover that I should put a label on these cigars, box em and sell them for 10-12 dollars.
This cigar tastes like a very well-aged boutique Habano. The amazing complexity and flavor stir my palate each time I smoke it. This has quickly become my favorite house blend of all time for Zeal Cigars. But don’t let the term “house blend” fool you. This is no ordinary “house” cigar. It is packed with a ton of flavor, perfect draw, and razor-sharp burn. Many folks begged me to label this and box it and put my name on it. I told them NO due to the fact it would take both longer to get out to the public and then cost double what it does now. This cigar is truly the ENVY of any King and we hope it becomes a staple cigar and must have stick for you.
